STUMP GRINDING

What is a Stump Grinder?

A stump grinder is a piece of machinery that eats away at the remaining stump wood after a tree has been removed. All stump grinders have a strong blade that spins at a high speed and tears through the wood as it passes over it. The teeth of the blade cut up the stump wood into manageable chunks. The operator maneuvers the blade over the entirety of the stump as it turns the wood into chips and cuts the stump down to a level that is much below ground level.

There are a number of reasons why we advocate having tree stumps removed. To begin, stumps are often seen as an unsightly nuisance that detracts from the appearance of a property and lowers its value. This is due to the fact that they do not provide any useful purpose.

If you leave a stump in place, it will continue to help develop a root system that can get underneath and destroy sidewalks, driveways, and foundations. Leaving the stump in place will also help grow fingerlings and fine roots, which can damage underground pipelines. Clay-based sewer drainage pipes, which are present in some residences, are particularly prone to damage because the root hairs seek out the moisture that they contain.

When you chop down a tree that is already dead, but you do not grind away the stump, you are increasing the opportunity for infestations. Infestations can be prevented by grinding away the stump. Pests such as termites and ants will easily come in and construct a nest in old tree stumps, which may cause significant difficulties for the remainder of your property. In addition to this, the decaying remains of an ancient tree present the perfect environment for the growth of fungi and bacteria.
